Called to Care: In the Spirit of Service, Stewardship and Universalism
In accordance with the institutional thrust on promoting the common good and well-being of all in the spirit of service, stewardship, and universalism, as reflected in the vision and mission of the school, the Senior High School Faculty and Staff of Manresa School are committed to realizing and personifying the teachings of Mother Candida Maria De Jesus and our institutional thrust, specifically loving the poor and providing service and assistance to our brothers and sisters who are in need.
As a response to this call, last August 30, 2024, the SHS Department has conducted an outreach program called “Called to Care”, in which aims to provide essential needs and emotional support to the abandoned and homeless elders in House of Somang, Paranaque City.
Albeit short, the SHS teachers have made meaningful connections to the lolos and lolas; having to share a light snack, to happily sing and dance, and to simply share great stories with one another. In addition to offering companionship, the teachers have also organized a donation drive for essentials such as food, soap, tissue and other toiletries. The outreach program transcended from being a volunteer work into a commitment in getting closer by creating a sense of community and belongingness to the poor and lost.
More than extending help to the lolos and lolas, it was the human connection and having been able to hear stories laid with so much strength and wisdom that made the program a rewarding experience. The warm smiles and laughter served as a powerful reminder of the resilience and wisdom of the elderly, inspiring the teachers to become more persevering in the face of adversities and to appreciate the blessings of God in every stage of our lives.
